Textiles and garments continued to see positive export growth in the first half of this year, increasing 10.6 per cent year-on-year to $14.2 billion, according to figures from the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT).

The size of India's textile market is expected to touch USD 250 billion in the next two years from USD 150 billion now, a senior government official said on Tuesday.
"We see tremendous growth potential for the textile industry and it is expected to touch USD 250 billion in the next two years from the present USD 150 billion. The domestic market is (currently) estimated at USD 110 billion and exports at USD 40 billion," Textile Commissioner Kavita Gupta said.

Cotton exports of India are likely to see a decline of 17 per cent in the 2016-17 cotton season. India exported 72 lakh bales of cotton in 2015-16 and Cotton Association of India (CAI) has estimated the exports to touch 60 lakh bales in the ongoing cotton season.
