Cotton cultivation during current sowing season has witnessed 18 percent increase across the crop growing areas of the country as compared to sowing of the corresponding period of last year.
The government had fixed a target to cultivate the cotton crop over an area of 3.11 million hectares during the crop season 2017-18 to fulfill the domestic requirements of the cotton as well as for exporting purpose, said Cotton Commissioner in the Ministry of Textile Industry Dr Khalid Abdullah.

The government has set a target of $45 billion exports from the country's textile and garment sector in 2017-18, lower than the $48 billion set for the last financial year (FY) which was missed by a huge margin.

Pakistan’s textile and clothing exports fell 0.92 per cent year-on-year to $10.29 billion in July-April mainly because of lower proceeds from raw material and low value-added products, such as cotton yarn and fabrics.
Data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics on Monday showed the decline in export proceeds was also evident in rupee terms.

Twenty-eight trainees from fashion houses, training institutions and home décor companies from East Africa learnt how to use the Shibori tie and dye technique on cotton, rayon, viscose, silk and canvas fabrics at a Hub sponsored training programme.
