Nearly 800 readymade garment factories have been closed down for various reasons, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed has said.
“Of them, production at 39 factories were totally stopped while production at 42 other factories were partially suspended due to their failure to ensure safety of the workers,” he told the Parliament on Monday.
Tofail said there were 5,190 RMG factories in the country. “Of them 4,834 are export oriented.”

China's ministry of commerce (MOFCOM) has announced imposition of anti-dumping duties on acrylic fibres originating in Japan, South Korea and Turkey with effect from July 14, 2016.
The anti-dumping duties would be levied on tariff numbers 55013000, 55033000 and 55063000. The rates to be levied on Japanese producers are: Japan Exlan Co – 16.1 per cent, Mitsubishi Rayon Co – 15.8 per cent, Toray Industries – 16.0 per cent, and other Japanese producers – 16.1 per cent.

The central parity rate of the Chinese currency renminbi, or the yuan, weakened 191 basis points to 6.6860 against the U.S. dollar Monday, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trading System.
The decline came after the currency witnessed sharp fluctuations in the previous week.
On July 19, the central parity rate of the yuan weakened to 6.6971 against the U.S. dollar, the weakest level in five and a half years, before the currency strengthened for three days in a row.

Exports of textile and clothing dropped by more than seven per cent to $12.46 billion in the outgoing fiscal year (2015-16) from $13.45bn a year ago, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics said on Friday.
