The Ministry of Textile Industry held a meeting of the Textile Board after a gap of eight years, an official told Dawn on Monday.
The board, reconstituted in July 2014, met in the capital with Federal Textile Industry Minister Abbas Khan Afridi as its chairman.
The Federal Textile Board was originally established in the year 2005 and its last meeting was held on April 27, 2006.
According to records, it met 14 times in all to review the existing laws, procedures and recommend measures

Jute demand has been on a down slide forcing many jute mills in West Bengal to down their shutters or go for reduced shifts. There has been a production cut of 30 to 40 percent in the last few months because of drop in order flow.
According to industry officials, jute mills in West Bengal are running at 60 per cent of their capacity and about one lakh workers have been rendered jobless. West Bengal has 64 of the 84 jute mills in the country.

Due to the uncertain economic outlook in some major markets , and in the European Union and the United States in particular, Thai garment exports likely to see relatively flat growth in a range of zero to 5 percent next year against expansion of 2-3 percent this year, according to the industry.
Besides deflation in EU countries and concern over the pace of recovery in the US, the forecast also takes into account the loss of EU import-duty privileges for Thai garments early next year.

Topshop's most famous customer Beyoncé is taking her appreciation of the British brand a step further: on Friday, the US-american singer has formed the 50-50 joined venture company Parkwood Topshop Athletic Ltd. with the multinational retailer.
According to WWD, the first brick-and-mortar and online stores of the new athletic streetwear or "ath-leisure" brand could be launched in the fall of 2015 at the earliest. Topshop is expected to reveal further details about the deal in London today.

It also aims to eliminate the existing competition, especially from Asian companies in the textile and clothing industry.

Pakistan value-added textile exports has witnessed growth by 10pc touching $2.3bn in the first quarter (July-September) of this fiscal year compared with $2.1bn a year ago.
