The US Department of Agriculture on Monday lowered its forecast for US and global cotton production in the 2013/14 crop year and reduced its outlook for record global inventories. The USDA cut its projection for output in the United States, the world's top cotton exporter, on lower yields; it cut its forecast for output in China, the world's largest cotton producer, on unfavourable weather.

Samsung Total Petrochemicals Co. bought 25,000 metric tons of naphtha for delivery to South Korea in the second half of September, according to two traders who participate in the market.
The company purchased open-specification grade last week at a premium of about $6 to $7 a ton to benchmark Japan prices, the traders said, asking not to be identified because the information is confidential.
