Sri Lanka's garment exports to key markets slowed in the first quarter, as price pressures and competition ate into industry growth.Total clothing exports in the first quarter this year grew just 1.1 percent over 2005, compared to the 11.2 percent increase in 2005 over 2004, industry apex body, the Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF) said Tuesday.
Export growth was also a higher 9.7 percent in 2004 over 2003.

Chinese Government is examining the duty drawback rate of export in some trade sectors, and is likely to reduce it by two percent.
The reduced rate would be related to exports of light industry, textiles, metallurgy, steel and machinery, informed Government sources.

Three U.S. textile companies, including DAK Americas of Charlotte, have filed an anti-dumping petition against China.They allege unfairly priced Chinese imports of certain polyester staple fiber -- a man-made fiber used as stuffing in sleeping bags, mattresses and furniture -- are injuring the domestic industry.
The filing asks the U.S. government to impose anti-dumping duties on Chinese imports of the fiber.

Footwear exports turnover of Thailand in April 2006 reached 2.41 billion Baht (US $63.93 million), witnessing a slight decrease of 3.9 percent in comparison with the same period 2005, according to Statistical Department, Thailand.
