Thailand's textile and garment exports continued to grow in the first quarter of this year, increasing by 9 percent to 1.67 billion U.S. dollars, according to the Department of Foreign Trade.
Rachane Potjanasuntorn, the department's direction-general, was quoted by the Thai News Agency as saying Monday that the country's exports of garments were worth 868.3 million U.S. dollars and that of textiles worth 803.1 million U.S. dollars during the January- March period.

The Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (Citi) has urged the government to speed up clearances of projects under the technology upgradation fund scheme (TUFS). Shoe soles import rates hiked sharply from US $1.07 per pair in March by almost 37.18 percent in April 2006.Three major import sources of shoe soles include dealers from Hong Kong, Taiwan and China.While April prices by Hong Kong suppliers was around $1.2 per pairs, representing a rise of almost one percent from late March, that by Taiwanese suppliers was up 58.25 percent to reach $1.63.China has raised prices by about 68 percent to nearly $0.84 per pair.
